First-time patients are frequently surprised about the warmth and individual attention that they receive from chiropractors, as the role and expertise of chiropractors as Australia’s spinal health care experts is often misunderstood.ChiropractorWednesdayProofsScreenJPEGs-20

Chiropractors aim to help you improve your health without drugs or surgery. They use a range of manual techniques to improve the function of your body’s muscles, bones and nerves, or neuromusculoskeletal system – in order to improve your wellbeing and quality of life.

Spinal adjustments have played an important role in health care treatment for thousands of years, dating back to records of use in ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Greek cultures; but the modern science behind chiropractic care has developed more recently. Chiropractors spend five years in university learning effective ways to adjust the spine and other joints in order to restore the natural alignment of your body and/or relieve pain. Chiropractors are one of the 14 health professions in Australia that are part of the National Registration Scheme requiring registration with the Chiropractic Board of Australia.

Chiropractic is also recognised by WorkSafe, TAC, The Department of Veteran Affairs, ComCare, Medicare and covered by all private health funds.

Chiropractors consult with patients about the nature of their health issues and take a full history of health and injuries. They may also order x-rays or, if necessary, MRI or CT scans before deciding on the best approach to treatment.

Vitality Chiropractic Screen JPEGs-105Chiropractors are trained in scientific methods of evaluating and managing a range of health issues which relate to the way skeletal and nervous systems works together to enable the body to heal and regulate itself. If the pathways of nerves are blocked or impaired, pain or health problems can result. Manual therapies which are commonly used by chiropractors to manage so-called ‘pinched’ or impaired nerves include spinal adjustment and body manipulation. Chiropractors also offer instructions on exercise and advice to patients, with a goal of improving their health and wellbeing.

Patients with medical issues which cannot be addressed by chiropractic techniques will be referred to other health practitioners for appropriate care.

We recommend you choose a Member of the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia, to ensure that your chiropractor adheres to the Association’s Code of Ethics.
